Private Island Atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago,
Manuhangi Atoll

Manuhangi (Birds in the Sky, in Pa'umotu,
because of the rare and beautiful endemic
species that inhabit this atoll and the
surrounding atolls with mythical names,
Paraoa, NengoNengo, Ahunui…) is also called
Conduit Te Fara, named after the pandanus fruit.
–
These trees, endemic to the region, are very numerous on the atoll,
as are coconut palms and other plants. The pandanus fruit
is acidic and slightly sweet.

The atoll is 5.4 km long and 3.6 km wide,
with 1 km² of land. The lagoon covers
7 km² and has no passes.
The atoll is uninhabited, although it is used as a base by Pa'umotu
fishermen who have established a water reservoir there
. A photovoltaic power plant would comfortably and reliably supply the energy needs of a
project scaled to the location.
Major construction and development
projects have been completed in the same
region, including the island of Nukutepipi,
developed by billionaire Guy Laliberté, founder
of Cirque du Soleil.
Specialists in aerial
construction and on-site development reside in
Tahiti and could contribute their
expertise and know-how to such a project, which should be considered.
Manuhangi Atoll is one of the 76 atolls in
the Tuamotu Archipelago.
It is located 96 km from Hao, the main town
of the commune, the fourth largest atoll
in the Tuamotu archipelago after Rangiroa, Fakarava, and
Makemo.
Hao has a long runway, which serves as a
diversion runway for large aircraft in case of
problems in Tahiti. The flight time
from
Hao to Papeete is approximately 2 hours.
Manuhangi is made up of a string of
small islands, sometimes separated by a
thin strip of coral. On this type of atoll,
airfields
or helicopter landing pads have
often been built. This means that
the distance to Hao, for example, is only a 20-
minute
flight by light aircraft or
helicopter.
