Goult – A family-owned property with historical significance
  • 4 195 000 €

Description

In the heart of the Luberon's golden triangle, Goult is an iconic hilltop village, deeply marked by the history of Provence. It is in this territory, shaped by the great transformations of the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, that this exceptional Mas is located.

In a peaceful yet not isolated setting, in a bucolic environment, the property offers nearly 600 m² of living space situated on almost 14 hectares comprising landscaped parkland, woods, and farmland. It boasts lovely views over the Bonnieux plain and the surrounding lavender fields.

The property's origins date back to the 15th century, during the reign of King René, Count of Provence, Duke of Anjou, and King of Naples. A great enthusiast of blown glass, he encouraged the settlement of Italian glassmakers in Provence, particularly those from Altare, near Savona. Under his patronage, and thanks to the irrigation works initiated by Fouquet d'Agoult, advisor and chamberlain to the King, who gave his name to the village of Goult, a significant glassmaking industry developed in the Luberon.
The glassworks founded in Goult in 1442 by the Ferry family—Italian glassmakers ennobled by letters patent from King René in 1476—was established on this very site. The king himself stayed there during visits to the Ferry family, definitively cementing the link between the place and the economic, artistic, and political history of Provence.

Over the centuries, the property has evolved while retaining its identity. The most recent section dates from 1904, and the property became a wine estate in 1907. The original cellar still houses the vats and the winch used for handling the barrels, witnesses to this period.

Today, the property comprises a 19th-century farmhouse, several outbuildings converted into elegantly decorated suites, and a separate caretaker's cottage.
The rooms are generously proportioned and harmoniously arranged: a living room, two lounges, a dining room, a large kitchen, and eight spacious bedrooms, seven of which have en-suite shower rooms or bathrooms.
Large windows flood the space with light and seamlessly extend the living areas onto a 400 m² south-facing terrace and landscaped garden.
Set back slightly, in a tranquil natural setting, a 15 x 5 meter heated swimming pool offers a perfect place to relax.

A sauna, a garage, a large cellar that can be converted as desired (gym, billiards, etc.) and a vegetable garden complete this characterful property, deeply rooted in the history of Provence, intended for lovers of authentic places, heritage and nature.
