Description
This château, a listed historical monument since 1957, is located in the Luberon region, a few kilometers from Forcalquier.
It is an exceptional property dating from the early 18th century, built at the behest of the Forbin-Janson family according to plans by the renowned Parisian architect Pierre-Alexis Delamair (who also designed the Hôtel de Soubise and Hôtel de Rohan in Paris, both housing the National Archives, and the Palais des Rohan in Strasbourg), with the collaboration of the Avignon architect Jean-Baptiste Franque (who designed the Musée Calvet in Avignon and the Château La Nerthe in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).
It boasts a high-quality architectural program, illustrating the spread of prestigious models throughout the provinces.
The property is situated on an unfenced plot of approximately 14 hectares, forming a park which opens onto the magnificent landscape of the village of Mane and the Lure mountain.
Restored for almost 40 years, the Château has regained its former splendor: tapestries, bas-reliefs, period chandeliers and original furniture have been recovered, testifying to the attention paid to detail, heritage and history of the Château.
Built on two levels over approximately 1600m2 according to a very streamlined plan, letting in light from all sides, the Château presents on the ground floor large reception areas, lounges, dining room, music room and a hall with a monumental staircase leading to 8 bedrooms/apartments, a billiard room and a chapel.
To the north, next to a decorative pond, an orangery has been converted into a reception hall for 150 people. Partially converted outbuildings include two gîtes (with one and two bedrooms respectively) and three guest rooms.
To the south, old stables built on the ruins of an old castle now provide storage for gardening equipment.
The park surrounding this Provençal gem comprises a courtyard to the west, behind a majestic wrought-iron gate, and a wide panoramic terrace to the east, overlooking a hanging garden and a large esplanade intended to become a formal French garden, the design of which was developed in collaboration with the Historic Monuments Directorate. This park received the "Remarkable Garden" label in 2005.
Located an hour north of Aix-en-Provence, easily accessible via the A51 motorway, this Château combines architecture of rare finesse in the remarkable setting of Giono's Provence, it will seduce aesthetes in love with Heritage and History.
